Professional teeth whitening at our Surrey dental practice is an efficient and effective way to remove stains and lighten the colour of your teeth if they have become discoloured and dingy over time.
What is the cosmetic teeth whitening process like?
Before the process can begin, your dentist will determine whether cosmetic teeth whitening is a good choice for you, and what bleaching system would provide the best results.
Once these considerations have been addressed, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth, based on which we will fabricate a mouth guard style appliance for you.
At your second teeth whitening appointment, your mouth guard and teeth bleaching materials will be ready for you to take home.
Your dentist will give you detailed instructions on how to apply the gel and how long you should leave it on your teeth each day.
Your lightweight mouth guard can be comfortably worn while you are awake or sleeping, and is thin enough that you will even be able to talk and work while wearing it.
Most bleaching systems require approximately 10-14 days to achieve the desired result.
How does cosmetic teeth whitening work?
The active ingredient in most of our whitening agents is carbamide peroxide (CH4N202). When water comes into contact with this white crystal, the hydrogen peroxide works to lighten the teeth.
Is bleaching teeth safe?
Teeth bleaching is indeed safe and effective. Some patients may experience some gum or tooth sensitivity, but this will resolve itself when the treatment ends.
How long will my teeth stay white?
The longevity of your teeth whitening treatment depends partly on your personal habits, such the frequency with which you drink coffee and tea. Typically, with good oral hygiene, teeth whitening results can last for 1 - 5 years.
You will likely have at least one vial of bleaching gel left over after your initial course of bleaching in complete. This can be used to "touch up" your smile down the road.
